2 cases filed in Chawkbazar inferno

DHAKA, Feb 22, 2019 (BSS) – Two separate cases were filed today in connection with the deadly fire broke out in Chawkbazar area under Old Dhaka on Wednesday night that left 68 people dead.

On behalf of Dhaka Metropolitan (DMP), Sub-Inspector Delwar Hossain recorded an unnatural death (UD) case with Chawkbazar Police Station.

Besides, Md Asif Hossain, a resident of the locality, filed another case with the same police station against two persons and other 10/12 unknown ones, duty officer of Chawkbazar Police Station sub-inspector Abdul Halim confirmed.

Asif, in his case statement, said the inferno broke out due to negligence of the building owner and the tenants of the house and demanded compensation for the loss of lives and properties.

The devastating fire broke out at a chemical warehouse and raged through four other adjacent buildings in the city’s Chawkbazar area on Wednesday night, leaving at least 68 people killed and around 41 others injured.

The authorities concerned have so far handed over 35 fire victims bodies to their families, officials said.
