city will remain in the days ahead.

The envoy made this assurance while on a courtesy call to Mayor of

Sidsel Bleken said existing relation between Bangladesh and Norway is
long-lasting. People of Norway’s Kristiansand city are well-known about
Rajshahi city. There is also a Kristiansand-Rajshahi City Friendship
committee. Bilateral relation between the countries will be strengthened in
the years to come. “We will remain with development of Rajshahi”, she added.

According to the meeting, the friendship between the two cities was
established in 1979 to mark the date back to the War of Liberation when a
Kristiansand photojournalist covered many incidents in Rajshahi and other
regions. It is learnt, Kristiansand city authority took Rajshahi as a sister
city of Kristiansand.

To mark the friendship, a 100-foot by 10-foot mural featuring various
aspects of Bangladesh’s history and culture was also installed at

The five-member Norwegian delegation comprising Tor Anbreas Torhaug, Maria
Torhaug, Pontus Bjernhagen and Dag Vige described the mural as a “Generous
Gift”. Tiles and 160 different colours were used in the mural projecting the
Language Movement, historic March 7 speech, the four national leaders,
freedom fighters, surrender of Pakistani army, Shaheed Minar, National
Mausoleum and Jatiya Sangsad.
