Shaheed Dibosh programmes in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Feb 20, 2018 (BSS)-The authorities concerned have completed all necessary preparations to observe the “Shahid Dibosh and International Mother Language Day-2018” tomorrow in Rangpur division, officials said.

The district and upazila administrations, socio-cultural and professional organisations, political parties, private bodies and institutions have chalked out elaborate daylong programmes to observe the occasion with due solemnity.

In Rangpur city, the observance will begin at one minute past the midnight tonight through placing wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar here to pay due respect to the Language Movement martyrs.

Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa, Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Kazi Hasan Ahmed and Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range of Bangladesh Police Khondker Golam Faruk will place wreaths there.

Later, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Wahiduzzaman and Police Super Mizanur Rahman along with other officials will place wreaths there to be followed by the other government and non-government departments and organisations.

Leaders of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad, Awami League (AL) and other political parties, professional organisations and common people will also place wreaths there to pay homage to the Language Movement martyrs.

The other programmes include hoisting of the national flag at half-mast atop all government and private buildings and educational institutions, ‘probhat ferry’, decoration of the city streets with miniature national and coloured-flags inscribed with Bengali alphabets.

Besides, competitions for the children on drawing, essay writing, hand writing, competitions on rendering patriotic songs and sports for the underprivileged children will be arranged along with screening of documentary films on the Language Movement.

Special prayers will be offered at mosques after Zohr prayers and temples, churches, pagodas and other places of religious worships at convenient times.

The local daily, weekly, fortnightly, monthly, online and others newspapers will publish special issues and Rangpur Betar Kendra will air special programmes narrating significance of the day.

The authorities of Rangpur City Corporation, Begum Rokeya University and other educational institutions, different socio-cultural, political and professional organisations have also chalked out programmes to observe the day.

The divisional commissioner will attend the main discussion to be held at the Central Shaheed Minar as the chief guest with the deputy commissioner in the chair in the evening.

Officials of the district administrations concerned said similar programmes have been chalked out to observe the day in Panchagarh, Thakurgaon, Dinajpur, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari and Gaibandha districts.
