Govt to construct 34 buffer godowns: Humaiyun

SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 11, 2019 (BSS) – Industries Minister Nurul Mazid Humaiyun today said the government has undertaken a plan to construct 34 buffer godowns in different districts across the country aimed at providing facilities for fertilizer preservation and distribution.

“A project is now underway for constructing 13 buffer godowns at a cost of Taka 482 crore in 13 districts for fertilizer preservation and distribution facilities,” he said while replying to a starred question from treasury bench member Nurunnabi Chowdhury of Bhola-3 in the Jatiya Sangsad.

The minister said the present government has formulated National Industry Policy 2016 aimed at further developing industrial sector, adding, “Long term plan (2010-2021) and midterm Seventh Fifth Year Plan (2016-2020) were formulated to reach the goal of vision 2021.”

“The government has set up a new fertilizer factory named ‘Shahjalal Fertilizer’ with 5.80 lakh metric tonnes production capacity to ensure fertilizer supply,” he said.

Humaiyun said the government has been implementing a technical assistance project ‘Modernization and Strengthening of Training Institute for Chemical Industries (TICI) in Bangladesh’ to generate skilled manpower and develop human resources with South Korean financial and technical support.
