BIWTA resumes eviction drive in Kamrangirchar
DHAKA, Feb 7, 2019 (BSS) – Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority
(BIWTA)resumed the eviction drive for the third consecutive day in
Kamrangirchar.
More than 290 illegal structures including 3 three-storied, 5 two-storied
and many one -storied buildings along with makeshift shanties and stalls have
been removed at Kamalbagh and Loharpool Chata Masjid area of Kamrangirchar.
More than two hundred structures were demolished on the first day of the
drive at Kamrangirchar’s Nababchar including five two-storey buildings, 28
single storey buildings, 22 rooms and 155 thatched structures. Earlier, there
had been 444 structures including multi-storey buildings evicted in a three-
day drive that began on Jan 29.
At least 1,199 illegal structures were demolished and around 1.25 lac takas
had been penalized, as of now.
A total of 609 structures at the river bank had been identified as illegal
and marked for demolition in areas stretching between Sadarghat and Gabtoli.
The next drive will be conducted on February 12-14.
