Former IGP ASM Shahjahan dies

DHAKA, Feb 6, 2019 (BSS) – Former Adviser to the Caretaker Government and
also ex-Inspector General of Police (IGP) ASM Shahjahan passed away at city’s
Appolo hospital on Tuesday midnight.

Dr Ujma Sayeed, daughter of Shahjahan informed that his father was
admitted to the hospital on January 26 last as he had been suffering from
Parkinson diseases. He was 76.

Shahjahan will be laid to rest at Banani Graveyard on Friday.

Born in 1941 at Begumganj Upazila in Noakhali, Shahjahan joined the police
force as assistant superintendent of police (ASP) in 1966.

He was appointed as deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP)
in 1976 and later got responsibility of DMP and Criminal Investigation
Department (CID) as its commissioner and chief respectively.

Shahjahan served Bangladesh Police as Inspector General of Police (IGP)
from 1992 to 96 and was appointed as secretary immediately after his
retirement from the police force.

He was Adviser of Education, Science and Information Technology to the
caretaker government of 2001.
