Shafiul included for ODIs, Ebadat for Tests in NZ series

DHAKA, Feb 5, 2019 (BSS)- The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has named
the replacements for pacer Taskin Ahmed in both the ODI and Test side for the
upcoming series against New Zealand.

Taskin, who had been originally named in both squads, has been ruled out
of the series due to a lateral ligament injury to his left ankle.

Shafiul Islam has been included in the ODI team while fellow pacer Ebadat
Hossain will join the Test side for the upcoming series against New Zealand.

Shafiul has not played an ODI since October 2016, and in two Tests and a
T20 in the intervening period, he has taken only two wickets. In the ongoing
BPL, he has taken 15 wickets at an average of 22.20, which has prompted his
selection.

Ebadot’s inclusion in the Test squad is not a surprise given he was the
highest wicket-taker among the pace bowlers in the Bangladesh Cricket
League’s first-class competition earlier in the 2018-19 season.

A late-bloomer who only came into reckoning through a pace-bowling hunt
in 2016, Ebadot has already impressed bowling coaches such as Aaqib Javed and
Courtney Walsh.

The Bangladesh ODI squad will leave Dhaka in batches over the coming
days, depending on the cricketers’ appearances in the ongoing BPL. The Test
players will leave later, as the two-day practice match in Lincoln will be
played on February 24-25. The ODI series will begin from February 13, while
the Test series begins on February 28.
