Govt to work for resolving problems of businesspeople: Salman

DHAKA, Feb 3, 2019 (BSS)- Terming the present government as business friendly, Prime Minister’s Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F Rahman today said the government would continue to work to solve problems of the business community.

“The Present government has put special emphasis on private sector in its development activities and it will continue to work to solve problems of businesspeople, including investors,” said Salman F Rahman while speaking at a discussion here.

Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) organized the discussion on “Success in Power Production: Best Use for the Dynamic Growth”.

FBCCI President Md. Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin chaired the discussion while State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid was present as the special guest. Dr. Ahmad Kaykaus, Secretary of Power Division, attended the program as the guest of honor.

Nasrul Hamid urged industries to increase their power consumption during the off-peak hours as 4,000 MW remains surplus during the period and it is a problem now. Demand for electricity drastically falls after 11pm, leading to a surplus of 4,000 MW power, he said and urged industries to increase consumption during those hours.

Salman said the government plans to offer lower tariff for electricity consumption during the off-peak hours and said DPDC has taken a $1.2-billion project to take electricity cable underground and set up new substations to ensure uninterrupted supply of power.

Chairman of Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) Engr. Khaled Mahmood, Chairman of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) Major General Moinuddin (Retd) and Chairman of Sustainable & Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA) Md Helal Uddin also took part in the discussion.
