11th JS for reducing poverty, hunger free country: Dr Shirin Sharmin

SANGSAD BHABAN, Jan 30, 2019 (BSS) – The newly re-elected Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury today said the 11th Jatiya Sangsad would work for eradicating poverty and making hunger free country.

“All parliamentarians would have to work unitedly for improving living standard and establishing rule of law in the country,” she said this after taking oath in the House.

Paying rich tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Speaker said Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was upgraded as a developing country for its tremendous development.

“Bangladesh has now opened a prospective window for young generation and this opportunity would have to complete by performing responsibilities of all,” Dr Shirin said.

Later, Leader of the House and Prime Minister Sheikh congratulated the Speaker for becoming Speaker in the Jatiya Sangsad for the third term in a row.

Deputy leader of the opposition G M Qader greeted the newly elected speaker and expressed his optimism that she would provide opposition lawmakers with adequate time, attention and space.

Taking floor senior parliamentarian Tofail Ahmed said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury as Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad first time in the history and she played a significant role for democratic practice in the House.

Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim said as female Speaker Dr Shirin was elected executive Chairperson of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) and played important role.

Congratulating Dr Shirin Sharmin, Jatiya Samastantrik Dal lawmaker Hasanul Huq Inu said: “We worked together against arson attacks and violence.”Rashed Khan Menon said, Dr Shirin played a significant role in the Jatiya Sangsad and upheld democratic practice in the House.
