Hasan for developing country thru merit, hard work, patriotism

DHAKA, Jan 26, 2019 (BSS) – Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said it is possible to develop Bangladesh as a beautiful country through merit, hard work and patriotism.

“There is no alternative to hard work and patriotism to become a developed nation,” he said, speaking at the inaugural function of a debate competition at an auditorium of CIRDAP here.

Sampreeti, a project of the Manusher Jonno Foundation, organized the competition titled ‘Tarunnyo Rukhbe Ugrabad’ (youths will resist extremism) with Debate for Democracy Chairman Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiran in the chair.

Hasan, also the publicity and publication secretary of Awami League, said debate play an important role in creating an equitable society. Debate is needed in a democratic country. A democratic society moves ahead by logic and rebuttal, he added.

He said, “I also did debate in my student life. I think the debates will play a role to stop extremism in the society. We will also get directives from the competition to remove extremism from the country.”

A total of 16 educational institutions took part in the competition. The institutions are Government Madrasha-e Alia, Darunnazat Siddiquia Kamil Madrasha, Jameya Kashemia Kamil Madrasha, Narayanganj Islamia Fazil (Degree) Madrasha, Tamirul Millat Kamil Madrasha, Manikganj Islamia Kamil Madrasha, Mirpur Government Bangla College, Begum Badrunnessa Government Women College, Siddheshwari Girls College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Lalmatia Women College, Tejgaon College, Dhaka Commerce College, Government Harganga College and Bhowal Bodre Alam Government College.
