Janaza of ex-MP Abdul Baten held on parliament premises

DHAKA, Jan 21, 2019 (BSS) – The namaz-e-janaza of freedom fighter and
former member of parliament Khandaker Abdul Baten, who died at a city
hospital this morning aged 72, was held on the south plaza of Jatiya Sangsad
(JS) Bhaban today.

Deputy Speaker Md Fazle Rabbi Miah, Agriculture Minister Dr Md Abdur
Razzak, Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan, State Minister for Shipping
Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Awami League Advisory Council Member Tofail Ahmed,
former parliament whip Nur-e-Alam Chowdhury, former and incumbent members of
parliament, political colleagues, JS secretariat officials and employees
attended the janaza.

A guard of honor was given to the freedom fighter for his contribution to
the country’s Liberation War.

Later, on behalf of the prime minister, her special assistant Abdus Sobhan
Golap paid tributes by placing a wreath on his coffin.

On behalf of JS speaker, sergeant-at-arms, Deputy Speaker Md Fazle Rabbi
Miah, AL leaders, on behalf of parliament members club, Chief Whip of 10th
Jatiya Sangsad ASM Feroz, whips Atikur Rahman Atik and Iqbalur Rahim and
Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury and Dhaka district administration placed wreaths on the
coffin.

Abdul Baten, who was the MP of Tangail-6 constituency (Nagorpur-Delduar) in
2008 and 2014, had been suffering from old-age complications for long.

Baten, one of the Liberation War organizers, left behind his wife, two
sons, a daughter and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn over his
death.
