Mauritius urged to recruit more Bangladeshi workers

DHAKA, Jan 15, 2018 (BSS) – Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam BSc today urged the Mauritius government to recruit more workers from Bangladesh.

He made the request when Labour, Industry and Employment and Training Affairs Minister Hon Soodesh Satkam Callichurn met with him at his office, an official release said.

Nurul said, “We have a large number of skilled and semi-skilled workers. Bangladeshi workers are working sincerely in different countries. I hope our workers will make good contribution to the economy of Mauritius, if they are recruited”.

Hon Soodesh said that at present the highest number of 23,263 overseas workers in Mauritius are from Bangladesh. India is in the second position with 8,367 workers, he added.

Nurul said the government has planned to send 12 lakh workers to different countries this year.

He said, “In 2017, we sent over 10 lakh workers to foreign countries, which are 33 percent higher than that of last year.”

Highlighting successes of his ministry, he said, the government has intensified various initiatives to enhance efficiency of workers aiming at earning more foreign currency.

At present, foreign job seekers are being given training from six Institutes of Marine of Technologies and 64 technical training centres, the minister said adding, “We are taking initiatives to set up 40 technical training centres in the first phase while 50 technical training centres in the second phase.”
