DHAKA, Jan 17, 2019 (BSS) – The Dhaka University (DU) authority here today appointed Professor SM Mahfuzur Rahman of International Business department as the Chief Returning Officer to conduct the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election.
A 15-member Advisory Council was also formed ahead of the long awaited DUCSU and hall union elections which remained dysfunctional for 28 years.
DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof. Akhtaruzzaman appointed Professor Mahfuzur Rahman under the 8 (e) section of the existing DUCSU constitution, said a DU press release.
The members of the Advisory Council are: Supernumerary Professor of History department Kazi Shahidullah, DU Teachers’ Association (DUTA) President Professor ASM Maksud Kamal, DUTA General Secretary Prof. Shibli Rubiatul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof. Mohammad Abdul Aziz, Dean of Faculty of Engineering and Technology Prof. Hasanuzzaman, Economics department Chairperson Professor Dr. Shafique uz Zaman, Population Sciences department Prof Dr. A.K. M. Nurun Nabi, Geography and Environment Science department Professor AQM Mahbub, Marketing department Professor Belayet Hossain, Chemistry dept. Professor Tofail Ahmed Chowdhury, Director of Business Administration Institution Professor Syed Farhad Anwar, Chairman of Bangla department Prof Bismadeb Chowdhury, Professor of Social Welfare and Research Institute ASM Atiqur Rahman, Supernumerary Professor of Mathematics department Sajeda Banu and Nutrition and Food Science Institute professor Sharmin Rumi Alim.
Meanwhile, DU VC Prof Akhtaruzzaman at a joint meeting sought all out support from everyone to hold a free, fair and peaceful DUCSU poll.
Provosts of different residential halls, house tutors and assistant house tutors of the dormitories and the members of proctor office participated at the meeting held at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on the campus.
Pro-VC (Academic) Nasreen Ahmad, Pro-VC (Administration) Muhammad Samad, Treasurer Prof Kamal Uddin, Chief Returning Officer Professor SM Mahfuzur Rahman, among others, attended the programme.
The DU authority also held a meeting with Teacher-Student Center (TSC)- based 22 socio-cultural organisations of the university in the morning at Abdul Matin Chowdhury Virtual Classroom to exchange views about the DUCSU poll.
