DHAKA, Jan 2, 2019 (BSS) – Chairperson of Indian Congress Parliamentary Party Sonia Gandhi has said the Awami League’s landslide election victory is the tribute of the people of Bangladesh to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s wise and visionary leadership.
“The (polls) results are the tribute of the people of Bangladesh to your wise, visionary and inclusive leadership, which has brought great economic and social development and progress to your country,” she said in her congratulatory message to the prime minister.
“The Indian Congress Party leader sent a message to the prime minister greeting her, Bangladesh Awami League and the people of Bangladesh on her party’s landslide victory in Sunday’s national polls,” PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told BSS.
Extending warmest felicitations to Sheikh Hasina for her party’s absolute victory, the Indian Congress Party leader in the message said: “Your revered and beloved father would have been so proud of you. Please also convey to your colleagues in the Awami League, the warm good wishes of the Congress Party on this happy occasion.”
“Your victory of course gives me personal joy, given the very close and special family bonds between us. But it is also a result that all Indians will celebrate — you have done so much to strengthen and expand relations between Bangladesh and India, for our mutual benefit,” the message read.
Sonia Gandhi added: “We know that we can continue to count on this friendship to continue to grow under your leadership.”
The Indian Congress Party also wished success of the prime minister as well as continued peace, progress and prosperity of Bangladesh, the press secretary said.
