While addressing the rally in Faridpur, the Awami League president came down heavily on the BNP-Jamaat for their five-year misrule from 2001 to 2006.

“They (BNP-Jamaat) did not do any development for the people but indulged in killing and looting. They embezzled orphans’ money, while many mothers lost their sons in the hands of the BNP-Jamaat elements,” she said.

Sheikh Hasina said the BNP-Jamaat nexus conspired to foil the 2014 elections but the people of the country resisted their evil design.

She said the people didn’t respond to the BNP-Jamaat movement in 2014 and 2015.

The prime minister put emphasis on maintaining the continuity of the government, saying that Bangladesh is now a role model of development as Awami League government was reelected through the 2014 elections.

Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh conquered the space and the sea by launching satellite and achieving maritime boundary. “We’ve realized just share of the Ganges water and solved the land boundary dispute with India,” she said.

The prime minister later addressed separate election rallies in Doulatdia Bus Terminal, Paturia Truck Terminal, Manikganj Bus Stand, Dhamrai Hardinge High School Ground and Savar Bus Stand. Addressing the rallies, she said the BNP did not utilize the country’s resources and instead, they looted those.

“BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia embezzled the orphans’ money and she is now in jail for corruption, not for any political reason,” she said, adding BNP did nothing but destruction.

Sheikh Hasina urged the countrymen to remain alert so that the killers, looters and corrupts do not came back to state power.

The prime minister also highlighted Bangladesh’s success in the field of world sports, particularly cricket.

While talking about the country’s economic development, the she said Bangladesh attained 7.86 percent GDP growth in the last fiscal year, while inflation came down to around 5.4 percent.

She said the purchasing capacity of the people has increased to a great extent due to vibrant economy. “A day labourer can now buy 10 kgs of rice through his/her daily income,” she said. The prime minister said: “We will consider the construction of the second Padma Bridge after completing the first one, if we are reelected.”
