Ctg to pay tribute to martyred intellectuals

CHATTOGRAM, Dec 13, 2018 (BSS) – Different political, socio-cultural
organisations and educational institutions will observe the Martyred
Intellectuals Day here tomorrow.

On the occasion, the organisations will pay rich tribute to the martyrs
with conveying sympathy to members of bereaved families.

Different political parties, socio-cultural and professional organisations
will arrange discussions, cultural functions and Milad Mahfils marking the
day.

Chattogram city Awami League will hoist black flags and keep the national
and party flags at half-mast at its Darulfazal Market Central Office at dawn.

To observe the mournful day, multifarious programmes have been chalked
out. The programmes included placing wreaths on the altar at the central
Shaheed Minar, photo exhibition, public gathering, discussion meeting and
candle lighting on mass graves throughout the day.

Chattogram city unit Awami League will also place wreaths at local Shaheed
Minar in the morning and arrange a meeting at party office Darul Fazal Market
to mark the day.

Local unit of Workers Party of Bangladesh will arrange different programme
including candle lighting programme at Shaheed Minar with placing wreaths on
the memorial plaque.

National flags will hoist half-mast at all public offices and important
institutions. Chattogram centres of Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh
Betar will air special programmes while local dailies will publish special
articles highlighting the significance of the day.

Chattogram north and south district chapters of Awami League, BNP city
unit, Bangladesher Communist Party, Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal, Bangabandhu
Samaj Kallayan Parishad and Bangladesh Islamic Front will arrange various
programmes including presenting garlands at Shaheed Minar, holding
discussions, cultural functions and Milad Mahfils to observe the day.

Chattogram Union of Journalists (CUJ) and Chattogram Press Club (CPC)
leaders will also place wreaths at Shaheed Minar at one minute past of zero
hours to night.

Chattogram District Administration, Chattogram District Shilpakala Academy
and Shisu academy will organise a discussion, essay competition in front of
Shihsu Academy tomorrow.

Meanwhile, different educational institutions including Chattogram
University (CU), Chattogram University of Engineering and Technology (CUET),
University of Science and Technology in Chattogram (USTC) have set elaborate
daylong programmes including placing wreaths at Shaheed Minar, discussion,
milad mahfil and probhat ferry.

CU VC Iftekher Uddin Chowdhury along with other teachers, officers and
students will place wreaths at Shaheed Minar in the early hours.
