DHAKA, Dec 12, 2018 (BSS) – Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda today requested all concerned, including the political parties, candidates and their supporters, to abide by the electoral rules ahead of the national polls schedule to be held on December 30.

“I would like to request all concerned, including the political parties, candidates, their supporters, well-wishers and admirers, to behave patiently, abide by the electoral rules, not to hinder electioneering of any candidate and be respectful to the democratic rights of one another,” he said at a press briefing at the Election Bhaban at Agargaon here.

He also urged all to refrain from any sort of sensational, untoward and anti-polls activities.

Referring to incidents of attacks on the second day of election campaign, he said, “We have been embarrassed. Yesterday, we had said with a great pleasure that no untoward incident took place during the election campaign. But two incidents took place yesterday (Tuesday) which embraced and saddened us. The incidents of deaths embarrassed and shocked us very much.”

“Life of a person is more precious than polls. We consider the life of a person as more important than elections to all 300 constituencies and any death from violence is not expected. We have to find a way to come out of this situation,” he added.

Among others, election commissioners – Mahbub Talukdar, Md. Rafiqul Islam, Kabita Khanam and Brigadier General (Retd) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury were present on the occasion.
