Foreign companies to get land to build exclusive zone in hi-tech park

DHAKA, Dec 10, 2018 (BSS) – Exclusive zone will be created in Kaliakoir
Bangabandhu Hi-Tech City for ensuring availability of land for foreign IT
companies aimed at achieving the ICT export target of US$ 5 billion by 2021.

“The investors of local and foreign are enjoying attractive incentive
package to invest in the country’s IT parks and in addition to that, land
will be allocated to the foreign companies in the IT parks for making
exclusive zone for IT business,” ICT Secretary Zuena Aziz said during a
agreement signing ceremony today.

On behalf of their respective organisations, Deputy Project Director of
Leveraging ICT for Growth, Employment and Governance (LICT) Project of
Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) Tarique M Barkatullah and Director of
Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority (BHTPA) Dr Khandoker Azizul Islam signed a
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the conference room of the ICT Division.

The deal was signed to work together to bring investors in the Hi
Bangabandhu Hi-Tech City.

Managing Director of Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority (BHTPA) Hosne Ara
Begum, Executive Director of BCC Parthapratim Deb and LICT Project Director
Md Rezaul Karim addressed the function while LICT Component Team Leader Sami
Ahmed presented a brief on industry promotion initiative being conducted by
LICT project.

The ICT secretary said the government will provide all necessary facilities
to the local and foreign investors in the IT parks to achieve the target of
US$5 billion ICT export by 2021.

“We have kept 40 acres of land intact in the Kaliakoir Hi-Tech City for the
foreign companies for making an exclusive zone in ICT business,” said Hosne
Ara.

She said the BHTPA has been discussing with the Japanese and some other
foreign investors to avail the facilities offered to them and urged to come
up with investment in the hi-tech park.

Hosne Ara asked the LICT project to work with BHTPA to promote the
country’s ICT industry abroad and bring the foreign investors in the Hi-Tech
Park.

Executive Director of BCC Parthapratim Deb put emphasis on bringing
Japanese investors in the Hi-Tech Park as they are already involved in
implementing various projects, including mega projects.

“Japan is our trusted friend and they will be interested to invest in the
IT parks,” he hoped.
