Speaker mourns death of Bir Protik Taramon Bibi

DHAKA, Dec 1, 2018 (BSS) – Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury today expressed deep shock at the death of decorated Freedom Fighter Taramon Bibi, one of the two female liberation war veterans in Bangladesh obtaining the prestigious gallantry award-‘Bir Protik’.

In a message of condolence, the Speaker prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members of the late freedom fighter.

Recalling her contribution to Bangladesh’s Liberation War, she said, “Taramon Bibi was a real patriot. At her death, the nation lost a brave solider of the 1971 Liberation War.”

She added: “People will remember her contribution with respect.”

Taramon Bibi breathed her last at her Kachripara residence of Char Rajibpur upazila of Kurigram district at about 1:30 am today at the age of 62.

She had been suffering from diabetics and lung problems for long.

Taramon Bibi was married to Abdul Majid. She left behind husband, a son, one daughter and huge admirers to mourn her death.

Taramon Bibi took part in direct combat against the Pakistani military during the Bangladesh War of Independence in 1971.
