Rajshahi Income Tax Fair fetches Taka 15.53-cr

RAJSHAHI, Nov 20, 2018 (BSS)-Income tax worth Taka 15.53 was collected in
the week-long fair that concluded here on Monday.

Thousands of taxpayers thronged to submit returns in the weeklong fair as
it has created enthusiasm among the public about the tax payment and return
submission.

In the fair, a total of 28,503 returns were submitted and 66,136 taxpayers
received their income tax related services. Besides, 875 taxpayers received
TIN certificates.

Commissioner of Taxes Dr Khandakar Ferdous Alam said the Rajshahi zone of
the department realized income taxes worth Taka 670.15 crore in the last
2017-18 fiscal year. The earning was higher by Taka 82.70 crore than the
previous fiscal.

Of those, collection of taxes in June 2018 was Taka 145 core showing 14.10
percent growth of recovery.

The number of taxpayers was stood at 2,47,008 in last financial year up by
27,834 than that of the previous fiscal in the zone consisting of the
districts of Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Naogaon, Natore and Pabna.

“National Board of Revenue (NBR) has set a target of realising taxes of
Taka 978 crore in the current 2018-19 fiscal in the zone and we are hopeful
about attaining the target by the end of this fiscal,” Dr Alam added.

The number of taxpayers is increasing gradually adding that the growth
rate is significant. To expand the tax network, various motivational
campaigns like spot assessment, survey and rewards for the taxpayers have
been introduced.

“We got a significant response from the taxpayers in the tax fair,” Dr
Ferdous Alam said, adding that the main thrust of the fair was to inspire the
taxpayers in paying more income tax spontaneously coupled with generating
more taxpayers.

Dr Alam said the year-round motivational programmes contributed to creating
public awareness about income taxes and boosting tax collection.
