DHAKA, Nov 15, 2018 (BSS) – Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said BNP is trying to create unrest only to foil the upcoming parliamentary election.

“Yesterday’s incident in front of Naya Paltan BNP central office was absolutely a pre-planned act. . . and BNP did it as they actually don’t want to take part in the election,” he told journalists at a press conference at his secretariat office this noon.

Referring to the vandalism at Naya Paltan where police vehicles were torched and several police were injured, the AL general secretary said, “Through the vandalism, BNP further proved them that they are not in favour of the election.”

Quader said BNP demanded for deferring the polls only to foil the polls process. “If the BNP wants to participate in the polls, they must shun all the evil attempts.”

About the BNP’s demand for the deferment of upcoming parliamentary polls, he categorically said Awami League does not want to defer the date of polls even one hour.

“Jatiya Sangsad polls will be held on the stipulated timeframe and If BNP tries to launch any agitation for their unrealistic and illogical demands, the people will resist it,” he added.

In reply of BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam’s allegation that pro-AL student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) launched the attack, Obaidul Quader said, “I even cannot think that Mirza Fakhrul would tell a lie like this.”

Asked whether his party would take any action against the troublemakers, the minister said the election commission will oversee whole issue and can direct the home ministry to take punitive action in this connection.
