Experts for maintaining disciplined life to prevent diabetes

RANGPUR, Nov 15, 2018 (BSS) – Endocrinologists and diabetic experts at a
discussion have stressed on maintaining disciplined life, taking balanced
food and conducting regular physical exercise to prevent the silent killer
disease of diabetes.

They made these observations at the post- walkathon discussion arranged by
Rangpur Diabetic Samity (RDS) on its office premises in the city on Wednesday
afternoon in observance of the World Diabetes Day-2018.

The RDS in association with the district administration chalked out
elaborate programmes like bringing out of the colourful walkathon, arranging
free diabetic tests and discussion in observance of the day.

Many people, including officials, physicians, educationists, teachers,
students, business community leaders, socio-cultural and professional
activists, civil society members and elite participated in the walkathon that
paraded the main city streets.

Deputy Director (Local Government) for Rangpur Ruhul Amin Mian attended the
discussion as the chief guest with Acting Vice-president of RDS Professor Dr
Muhammad Rezaul Haq in the chair.

President of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce, former FBCCI Vice-president
and General Secretary of RDS Mostafa Azad Chowdhury Babu delivered welcome
speech narrating objectives of observance of the day.

Head of the Department of Endocrinology of Rangpur Medical College and
Hospital (RMCH) and renowned diabetic expert Professor Dr Abu Laik Ahmed Khan
delivered the keynote presentation as the main discussant.

Diabetic experts Professor Dr Abdul Hye and Professor Dr Md Nuruzzaman took
part in the discussion as resource persons.

Professor Khan elaborately discussed the present national and global
scenario of the spread of diabetes and forwarded various suggestions and way-
outs for the diabetes patients to lead more disciplined, normal and longer
life.

“Most of the common people are still not adequately aware of the risks of
the silent killer disease of diabetes which gradually destroys the immune
system of human body silently leading toward death ultimately,” he said.

The speakers laid maximum importance on launching comprehensive social
campaign for creating mass public awareness about the silent killer disease
and assisting the diabetic patients to maintain disciplined life with changed
habits for leading normal life.

The chief guest called upon the physicians and health service providers to
properly inspire the diabetic patients in taking balanced food and conducting
regular physical exercise to lead longer and normal life.
