Extensive plan to cultivate winter vegetables in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, NOV 11, 2018 (BSS) – Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has taken an
extensive plan to cultivate winter vegetables in all the seven upazilas in the district during the current season.

DAE Office sources said at least 8000 hectares of land of the district would be brought under the cultivation programme this year with the production target of 12,830 metric tons of
vegetables.

The vegetables include brinjal, radish, tomato, cauliflower, cabbage, bean, carrot, balsam apple, cucumber, turnip, parble, lal shak, sabuj shak, lau shak and palang shak.

The farmers are showing their interest in farming vegetables this year as they have got economical benefit in previous years.

In some of the places, the farmers have already started to cultivate vegetables on their land with the hopes of getting desired output against the vegetables and much profit from the farming.

M. Amir Ali, an ideal farmer of Putimari village under Saghata upazila, said he started the vegetables farming on his land this season and was putting his best efforts to succeed the cultivation in a bid to earn money.

To increase vegetables production and to make the cultivation a grand success, the DAE officials are also conducting training in field level to the farmers and providing latest agro technologies to them.

Meanwhile, early varieties of vegetables like cabbage, cauliflower, bean, radish and brinjal have started to come in the market and the customers are buying those with much enthusiasm at reasonable price.

Talking to the BSS deputy director of DAE AKM Ruhul Amin said the field level agriculture officers were instructed to motivate the farmers to farm vegetables to help them earn economical profit and meet its growing demand to the people as well.
