RANGPUR, Nov 6, 2018 (BSS) – Speakers at a function here stressed the need
for proper enlistment of beneficiaries for getting facilities from social
safety net programmes (SSNPs) to remove poverty from the society to achieve
the sustainable development goals (SDGs) timely.
Government officials, public representatives and development activists came
up with the expression at the upazila coordination meeting held at upazila
conference centre in Fulbari upazila town of Dinajpur on Monday afternoon.
With sponsorship of the European Union, the World Vision Bangladesh (WVB)
and ‘Pollishree’ jointly organised the meeting under the “Establishing
Vulnerable People’s Rights to Social Safety Net Programmes (EVPRA) project.
Fulbari Upazila Primary Education Officer Minara Khatun presided over the
meeting participated by government and NGO officials, union chairmen and
members.

Implementation Officer Kawser Ali, Upazila Women Affairs Officer Fahmida
Islam, Panel Mayor of Fulbari municipality Zobaidur Rahman, Senior Community
Development Specialist of the EVPRA project Saiful Islam and union chairman
Nazir Hossain addressed.
Saiful Islam discussed the EVPRA project activities being conducted in the
upazila to enhance coordination among all stakeholders concerned to ensure
proper enlistment of the most vulnerable people as beneficiaries of the
SSNPs.
Nazir Hossain said the comprehensive SSNPs are reducing extreme poverty by
meeting urgent need of the most vulnerable, poor and distressed people in the
society.
“The SSNPs could be implemented more effectively by ensuring proper
coordination among all stakeholder departments and organisations to
accurately select the vulnerable and ultra poor people as beneficiaries,” he
added.
In her concluding speech, Minara Khatun said the pattern of poverty has
changed with improvement of the life standard of common people and cited
various field-level realities, achievements and loopholes in the
implementation process of the SSNPs.
She specially suggested for avoiding overlapping in selection of
beneficiaries through ensuring inclusion of every deserving citizen to
eliminate poverty from the society permanently for achieving the SDGs.
