Victory Day celebrated in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Dec 17, 2017 (BSS) – The 47th Victory Day was celebrated amid huge festivity in Rangpur division yesterday with a fresh vow to building a prosperous ‘Sonar Bangla’ free from corruption, militancy and terrorism.

Thousands of the cheering people thronged the Shaheed Minars and monuments of the martyrs in the district and upazila headquarters and placed wreaths there to pay rich tribute to the martyred since the zero hours.

The district administration, City Corporation, Awami League (AL), its associate bodies and other political parties, freedom fighters, educational institutions and other organisations celebrated the day through elaborate programmes.

The celebrations began at the zero hours with 31-gun salute at Police Lines Ground and placing wreaths at the Independence Memorial ‘Arjan’ and Central Shaheed Minar in the city.

Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed, Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range Khondker Golam Faruk, Acting President of district AL Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Wahiduzzaman, Police Super Mizanur and District Muktijoddha Commander Mosaddek Hossain Bablu first placed wreaths.

Later, leaders of AL, its associate bodies and other political parties, different socio-cultural and professional organisations, heads of educational institutions and other organisations placed wreaths.

The national flag was hoisted atop all public and private buildings, main buildings were illuminated, roads and road islands were decorated with the national flag and miniature flags, mini marathon and ‘Bijoy’ rallies were brought out in the streets.

The Divisional Commissioner hoisted the national flag and took salute at march-past and displays by freedom fighters, police, Ansar-VDP, BNCC, fire service personnel, students, children, jail guards, scouts, rover scouts and girl guides at Rangpur stadium.

The District Information Office screened documentary films on the War of Liberation and Victory Day and freedom fighters and relatives of martyred freedom fighters were accorded receptions.

Special prayers were offered at the places of religious worships seeking divine peace for departed souls of the martyred sons and daughters of the soil, progress and welfare of the nation and its people.

Improved diets were served to inmates of hospitals, orphanages, Government Shishu Paribars, jail, vagabond and children centres and shelter homes of the elderly people.

Drawing competitions for children, shooting competitions, discussion and sports competitions for women, football matches, sports and essay competitions for students, prize distribution and cultural functions were arranged.

The main discussion was arranged on the Central Shaheed Minar premises with Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Wahiduzzaman in the chair followed by prize distribution and cultural functions last night.

Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed attended the discussion as the chief guest.

Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range Khondker Golam Faruk, Acting President of district AL Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, Police Super Mizanur and District Muktijoddha Commander Mosaddek Hossain Bablu, among others, addressed.

The speakers called for disseminating true national history among young generations for building a developed ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Similarly, the day was celebrated through identical programmes in Gaibandha, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari, Panchagarh, Thakurgaon and Dinajpur districts under Rangpur division.
