DHAKA, June 9, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Women's team suffered an 11-run defeat
to Ireland in their last warm-up match ahead of the upcoming ICC Women's T20
World Cup.
Chasing a target of 144, Bangladesh were restricted to 132-6 despite a
fighting half-century from opener Juairia Ferdous Mou.
Bangladesh earlier tasted a 68-run defeat to New Zealand in their first
practice game, meaning they lost both of the warm-up matches ahead of the
showcase event.
Bangladesh lost opener Dilara Akhtar for a duck in the opening over but
recovered through a 77-run partnership between Juairia and Sharmin Akhtar for
the second wicket.
Juairia led the resistance with a fluent 50 off 38 balls, while Sharmin
contributed a patient 27 from 40 deliveries. However, Bangladesh lost
momentum after their departures and struggled to keep up with the required
run rate.
Captain Nigar Sultana Joty scored 19 runs and Swarna Akter added 12, but
neither could guide the side to victory. No other batter managed to reach
double figures as Bangladesh fell short of the target.
Earlier, Bangladesh captain Joty won the toss and elected to field first.
Ireland made a shaky start, losing both openers within the first four overs.
Amy Hunter scored 19 runs while Alana Dalzell was dismissed without opening
her account.
Rebecca Stokell top-scored for Ireland with 30 runs in a modest batting
effort. The innings gained late momentum thanks to Ava Canning, who blasted
21 runs off just eight balls from No. 11, helping Ireland post 143-9.
Bangladesh's bowlers kept the Irish batters largely in check, with none of
the remaining batters crossing the 20-run mark.
Despite the disciplined bowling performance, Bangladesh's batting unit failed
to capitalize on a manageable target as Ireland secured an encouraging
victory ahead of the World Cup.
