Bangladesh enter Para archery era

DHAKA Feb 27, 2023 (BSS)- Bangladesh's archery entered a Para archery era as it was officially inaugurated today (Monday) at a city hotel.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Mohammad Zahid Ahsan Russel, MP, announced the opening of Para Archery Bangladesh through a formal ceremony. Secretary Generals of World Archery and Asian Archery Federation were present during the opening ceremony.

Speaking as the chief guest the State Minister said a new horizon in the sports arena of Bangladesh has been auspiciously started with the establishment of Para Archery Bangladesh. This is a historic moment. Undoubtedly, this event will provide a good opportunity for our talented and special needs people.

The state minister also said that talented autistic and players with disabilities are the pride of the country. Under the patronage of the government, they made the country proud by participating in the Special Olympics at various occasions by winning 216 gold, 109 silver and 84 bronze medals. Bangladesh's physically challenged cricket team participated in eight tournaments at the int'l level and achieved the rare honour of becoming champions in all rounds.

Russel said Bangladesh won the honour of becoming the unbeaten champion in the Bangabandhu four-nation Physically Challenged Cricket Tournament-2022, organized on the occasion of Mujib year.

In the last SA Games, Bangladesh won 137 medals including 19 gold medals. Bangladesh created history by winning ten out of ten gold medals in archery.

Youth and Sports Secretary Dr Mohiuddin Ahmed, Bangladesh Archery Federation's (BAF) president Lt. Gen. Mainul Islam and BAF's general secretary Kazi Razib Uddin Ahmed Chapal, among others, were present on the occasion.
