One die of Covid-19, fatalities reach 1,237 in Rangpur

 RANGPUR, Oct 9, 2021 (BSS) - One more Covid-19 patient died during the
last 24 hours ending at 8 am today raising the death toll due to the virus to
1,237 in the division.

   Health officials said the new casualty was reported from Dinajpur
district.

   "The overall Covid-19 situation continues improving amid a declining
positivity rate and rising recovery almost during the last two months in the
division," Divisional Deputy Director (Health) Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam told
BSS.

   The district-wise break up of the total fatalities stands at 293 in
Rangpur, 80 in Panchagarh, 88 in Nilphamari, 68 each in Lalmonirhat and
Kurigram, 251 in Thakurgaon, 326 in Dinajpur and 63 in Gaibandha.

   The average casualty rate is now 2.24 percent in the division.

   Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases reached 55,111 as seven new
patients were diagnosed after testing 283 samples at the daily positivity
rate of 2.47 percent on Friday.

   Earlier, the daily Covid-19 positivity rates were 6.11 percent on
Thursday, 6.85 percent on Wednesday, 2.87 percent on Tuesday, 4.01 percent on
Monday, 1.42 percent on Sunday and three percent on Saturday last in the
division

   The district-wise break up of total 55,111 patients include 12,417 of
Rangpur, 3,776 Panchagarh, 4,427 of Nilphamari, 2,734 of Lalmonirhat, 4,633
of Kurigram, 7,572 of Thakurgaon, 14,699 of Dinajpur and 4,853 of Gaibandha.

   Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Motaharul Islam said a total of
2,85,935 collected samples were tested till Friday, and of them, 55,111 were
found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 19.27 percent in
the division.

   In the meantime, the total number of healed Covid-19 patients reached
52,423 with recovery of 31 more infected patients on Friday in the division
where the average recovery rate currently stands at 95.12 percent.

   The 52,423 recovered patients include 11,039 of Rangpur, 3,614 Panchagarh,
4,332 Nilphamari, 2,621 Lalmonirhat, 4,527 Kurigram, 7,174 Thakurgaon, 14,330
in Dinajpur and 4,786 Gaibandha districts.

   Among the 55,111 patients, 62 are undergoing treatments at isolation
units, including seven critical patients at ICU and five at High Dependency
Unit, after recovery of 52,423 patients and 1,237 deaths while 1,389 are
remaining in home isolation.

   "Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19
vaccine rose to 41,01,080, and among them, 17,86,207 got the second dose of
the jab till Friday in the division," Dr Islam added.

   Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and
Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu urged
everyone to abide by the health directives although the Covid-19 situation
continues improving.
