Covid-19 recovery rate crosses 92pc in Rangpur

   RANGPUR, Sept 9, 2021 (BSS) - The recovery rate of Covid-19 patients has

crossed the 92 percent mark in Rangpur division where the healing rate
continues rising amid declining positivity rate during the last one month.

     Health officials said 142 more Covid-19 patients healed on Wednesday
raising the total number of recovered patients to 49,653 at the average
healing rate to 92.01 percent so far in the division.

     The 49,653 recovered patients include 10,148 of Rangpur, 3,256 of
Panchagarh, 4,204 of Nilphamari, 2,529 of Lalmonirhat, 4,311 of Kurigram,
6,583 of Thakurgaon, 13,955 of Dinajpur and 4,667 of Gaibandha districts in
the division.

     Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases reached 53,964 with the
diagnosis of 59 fresh cases after testing 835 new samples at the positivity
rate of 7.07 percent on Wednesday in the division.

     "Earlier, the positivity rates were 8.46 percent on Tuesday, 11.17
percent on Monday, 9.79 percent on Sunday, 9.80 percent on Saturday, 6.88 on
Friday last," Focal Person of the Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health)
for Rangpur division Dr ZA Siddiqui said.

     The district-wise break up of total 53,964 patients include 12,242 of
Rangpur, 3,618 Panchagarh, 4,344 of Nilphamari, 2,705 of Lalmonirhat, 4,573
of Kurigram, 7,314 of Thakurgaon, 14,400 of Dinajpur and 4,768 of Gaibandha
districts in the division.

     "Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, a total of 2,64,035
collected samples were tested till Wednesday, and of them, 53,964 were found
positive with an average positivity rate of 20.44 percent in the division,"
Dr Siddiqui added.

     Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Motaharul Islam said
the number of casualties reached 1,213 as one new death was reported from
Rangpur district in the division during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am
today.

     The district-wise breakup of the 1,213 fatalities stands at 289 in
Rangpur, 79 in Panchagarh, 87 in Nilphamari, 64 in Lalmonirhat, 66 in
Kurigram, 245 in Thakurgaon, 320 in Dinajpur and 63 in Gaibandha districts of
the division.

     "The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.25 percent in the
division," Dr Islam said.

     Among the 53,964 patients, 148 are undergoing treatments at isolation
units, including 14 critical patients at ICU beds and seven at High
Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 49,653 patients and 1,213 deaths
while 2,950 are remaining now in home isolation.

     "Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-
19 vaccine rose to 21,95,787, and among them, 12,04,406 got the second dose
of the jab till Wednesday in the division," Dr Islam added.

     Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and
Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu
expressed his satisfaction cautiously over the improving Covid-19 situation
in recent weeks.

     "Despite the improving Covid-19 situation, everyone should abide by the
health directives to prevent further spread of the deadly virus," he added.
