DHAKA, Nov 28, 2022 (BSS) - Workers of passenger and cargo vessels on the river routes have withdrawn from their nationwide strike started on Saturday midnight to press home their 10-point demands, including a Taka 20,000 as minimum monthly wage.
Leaders of the water transport workers called off the strike today following a meeting with State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian and representatives of Launch Owners' Association and Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) at Shrama Bhaban in the city in this afternoon.
After the meeting, Monnujan Sufian at a press conference said a third party created chaos centring the water transport workers' strike.
"All the vessels, carrying passengers and goods, will resume service across the country," she said.
Earlier, the water transport workers started their strike for an indefinite period from Saturday midnight to realize their 10-point demands, including a Taka 20,000 as minimum monthly wage and a provision for an appointment letter, identity card, service book and other service benefits.
