IGP for ensuring highest security for National Mourning Day programmes

  DHAKA, Aug 3, 2021 (BSS) - Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr
Benazir Ahmed today asked chiefs all police units to ensure highest
security for the National Mourning Day's programmes on August 15.

   Attending a virtual meeting at police headquarters with concerned
senior officials, superintendents of police (SPs) status officers of
all metropolitans, ranges and districts this evening, the IGP also
instructed to keep a close eye on whether the programs are being
organized properly maintain the health rules or not.

  "August is our month of mourning," the IGP said, mentioning that
"Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of
his family members were brutally assassinated in this month."

  "Besides, many anti-state and anti-government activities, including
grisly grenade attack on August 21, were carried out in this month
targeting the present Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina while, the outlawed
militant JMB carried out a series of bombings in 63 districts
throughout the country on August 16," Beazir mentioned.

   He categorically suggested to be more careful keeping in mind all
of theses."We have to be very vigilant about activities of terrorists,
proletariat, rumor or propaganda through social media, "the police
chief added.

   Issuing a stern warning against drug abuse, he said, "Our position
against drugs is zero tolerance."

  The IGP said if any police member was found involved in drug abuse,
strict legal action, including dismissal, would be taken against him.

  Referring to beat policing, which has already been widely acclaimed
by all quarters, the IGP said, beat policing is an effective and
popular way to bring police services to people's doorsteps.

   Benazir also directed all concerned to continue 'beat policing' in
compliance with health rules due the pandemic COVID-19 outbreak.

  The IGP directed the senior officers to brief their fellow police
personnel regularly to ensure compliance with health rules to prevent
coronavirus infection.

   He said that Bangladesh Police has now become a humane police by
standing by the people in the current crisis.

   Benazir Ahmed urged the people to continue using this opportunity
to win their hearts and minds.

   The IGP said, "We want to leave a police force in a position so
that we can be proud of it after the retirement and county's people
can proudly accept the services of the police force."

   Noting that the outbreak of dengue has increased at present, he
directed the concerned individuals to keep all police venues or
installations clean and tidy to prevent dengue.
