Covid-19 cases reach 85,350 with 771 afresh in Rajshahi division

RAJSHAHI, Aug 3, 2021 (BSS) - A total of 771 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in all eight districts in the division on Monday, taking the caseload to 85,350 since the pandemic began, the health department sources said here today.

With 17 more Covid-19 related fatalities reported on the same day, the death toll reached 1,361 here, including 573 in Bogura, 250 in Rajshahi with 148 in its city and 140 in Chapainawabganj, said Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, divisional director of Health.

The new daily infection figure shows a little-bit escalating trend compared to the previous day's figure of 724.

Among the infected people, 62,313 have, so far, been cured from the lethal virus with 1,008 new recoveries reported on the day.

A total of 12,423 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at different designated hospitals here.

Besides, all the positive cases for Covid-19 have, so far, been brought under necessary treatment while 19,955 were kept in isolation units of different hospitals for institutional supervision. Of them, 13,731 have by now been released.

On the other hand, 338 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 501 others were released from isolation during the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

Of the total positive cases, the highest 226 were detected in Rajshahi, including 148 in its city, followed by 179 in Sirajganj, 144 in Pabna, 81 in Bogura, 67 in Natore, 37 in Naogaon, 24 in Chapainawabganj and 13 in Joypurhat districts.

With the newly detected patients, the district-wise break-up of the total cases now stands at 24,680 in Rajshahi, including 19,833 in its city, 5,093 in Chapainawabganj, 6,010 in Naogaon, 6,976 in Natore, 4,231 in Joypurhat, 19,210 in Bogura, 8,784 in Sirajganj and 10,375 in Pabna.

A total of 1,01,611 people have, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 last year to prevent the community transmission of the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 91,331 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their 14-day quarantine.

Meanwhile, the surge in Covid-19 cases has been continuing in all the eight districts of the division since the beginning of the second wave making it a hotspot of the deadly virus.
