Covid-19 casualties reach 950 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, August 2, 2021 (BSS) - The Covid-19 related casualties climbed to 950 as 14 more infected patients died during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am today in the division.
 
Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases rapidly climbed to 45,427 in the division with diagnosis of 575 positive cases afresh on Sunday.
 
“The Covid-19 situation still continues showing a deteriorating trend despite ongoing lockdown in the division,” said Dr ZA Siddiqui, focal person of the Covid-19 and assistant director (Health) of Rangpur division.
 
The 14 new casualties were reported from Rangpur, Lalmonirhat, Gaibandha, Nilphamari, Panchagarh, Thakurgaon and Dinajpur districts.
 
The district-wise break-up of the 950 fatalities now stands at 208 in Rangpur, 60 in Panchagarh, 68 in Nilphamari, 56 in Lalmonirhat, 54 in Kurigram, 185 in Thakurgaon, 272 in Dinajpur and 47 in Gaibandha.
 
“The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.09 percent in the division,” Dr Siddiqui added.
 
Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases reached 45,427 as 575 new patients were diagnosed after testing 1,933 samples of Rangpur division at the positivity rate of 29.75 percent on Sunday.
 
Earlier, the daily positivity rates were 30.31 percent on Saturday, 26.36 percent on Friday, 26.87 percent on Thursday, 28.63 percent on Wednesday, 28.02 percent on Tuesday and 26.92 percent on Monday last in the division.
 
“The district-wise break-up of the total 45,427 infected patients in the division now stands at 10,115 in Rangpur, 2,804 in Panchagarh, 3,678 in Nilphamari, 2,278 in Lalmonirhat, 3,641 in Kurigram, 6,206 in Thakurgaon, 12,880 in Dinajpur and 3,895 in Gaibandha,” he said.
 
Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Motaharul Islam said a total of 2,18,811 collected samples were tested till Sunday, and of them, 45,427 were found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 20.58 percent.
 
Meanwhile, the total number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 35,176 with recovery of 657 more infected patients on Sunday in the division where the average recovery rate currently stands at 77.43 percent.
 
Of the total 35,176 recovered patients, 6,962 of Rangpur, 1,754 Panchagarh, 3,017 Nilphamari, 1,862 Lalmonirhat, 2,667 Kurigram, 4,657 Thakurgaon, 11,486 in Dinajpur and 2,771 Gaibandha districts in the division.
 
Among the 45,427 infected patients, 613 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 24 critical patients at ICU beds and 11 at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 35,176 patients and 950 deaths while 9,115 are remaining in home isolation.
 
“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine rose to 9,20,786 and among them, 3,93,884 got the second dose of the jab till Sunday in the division,” Dr Motaharul Islam added.
 
Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu urged all for abiding by the health directives as the Covid-19 positivity rate still continues rising in the division.
