DHAKA, Aug 01, 2021 (BSS)- The postal department today released a commemorative postage stamp, a first day cover and a data card marking the golden jubilee of historic ‘Concert for Bangladesh’, orchestrated by noted rock star George Harrison at Madison Square Garden on August 1, 1971 in New York for collecting fund for Bangladesh during the  War of Independence.

Post and Telecommunication Minister Mostafa Jabbar released the stamp and first day cover of Taka 10 each and the data cards of Taka 5 from his office here.

Terming Concert for Bangladesh, the biggest programme in the world for the first time supporting the Liberation War of Bangladesh, the minister said the programme was held at the Medison Square Garden in New York with the effort of Indian musician Rabi Shankar.

The main thing of the concert was to make a call to the people throughout the world for standing beside Bangladeshi people, he said, adding that the main attraction of the programme was the biggest rock star of the planet George Harrison and Bob Dylan who had sung eight and five songs respectively at the programme.

At the end of the concert, the legendary singer George Harrison sung the versatile song - ‘Bangladesh, Bangladesh’. The main theme of the song was an appeal to the world people to stand beside Bangladeshi people, the minister noted.

The stamp, first-day cover and data card would be sold from Philatelic Bureau of Dhaka GPO from today and those would be available at other GPOs and head post offices across the country later.
