KHULNA, Aug 1, 2021 (BSS) – A number of 40 persons died of Covid-19 and 880 more people have tested positive for the deadly virus in the last 24-hour till this morning in the division.

The death toll from the virus reached 2,428 after 40 fatalities were reported in seven districts of the division during the time, said Dr Jashim Uddin Howlader, divisional director of health.

The total fatalities included the highest 629 in Khulna, 569 in Kushtia, 351in Jashore, 207 in Jhenaidah, 163 in Chuadanga, 137 in Meherpur, 126 in Bagerhat, 94 in Narail, 85 in Satkhira, and 67 in Magura district, he said.

Among the new deaths, 16 are in Kushtia, seven in Jashore, five each in Khulna and Jhenidah, three in Bagerhat and two each in Chuadanga and Narail district in the division.

A total of 880 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in all 10 districts of the division, climbing the number of infected patients to 93,812.

The new daily infection figure also shows a sharp increase compared to the previous day’s figure of 571, the health department sources said.
