DHAKA, Aug 17, 2022 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today issued a rule asking authorities concerned to explain as to why it shall not pass order to give Taka one crore to each of the families of five people killed after a part of a box girder of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project fell from a crane on a car in Dhaka's Uttara area on August 15.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Ahmed Sohel passed the order after holding hearing on a writ petition filed in this regard.

The High Court in its rule also asked as to why the “inaction” of the respondents in stopping such accidents shall not be declared illegal. It also directed to submit a report on the steps taken by BRT project for public safety while constructing the infrastructure in last five years, within two months.

Supreme Court lawyer Shahjahan Akond Masum filed and moved the writ today on behalf of Advocate Zakaria Khan. Five officials including Road, Transport and Bridges Secretary and BRT Project Chairman were made respondents in the writ.

Another lawyer of the Supreme Court Advocate Sagufta Ahmed filed a separate writ petition over the matter.
