Algerian Ambassador calls on telecommunications minister

DHAKA, July 20, 2022 (BSS) - The Ambassador of Algeria to Bangladesh, Raba Larbi today paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Mostafa Jabbar at the Secretariat here.

During the meeting, they shed light on various issues of mutual interest, especially mutual cooperation in the telecommunication sector, said a press release.

"Bangladesh has reached the milestone of achieving expected progress in the development of telecommunication sector," Jabbar said.

"The golden door of Bangladesh's relations in the field of global telecommunication was opened in 1973 by the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, through the acquisition of ITU membership," he said.

"As a result of this, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's 18-and-a-half-year tenure has seen incredible success in the telecommunications sector, including the Internet and in the digital technology sector," he added.

Jabbar, also the chairman of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) conference in Geneva in 2019, highlighted the various programmes undertaken in digital technology development, including 5-G technology, and said that Bangladesh is a very profitable country for investment as a result of the government's investment-friendly policy.

The minister expressed optimism that the existing relations between Bangladesh and Algeria will be strengthened in the coming days.

The Ambassador appreciated Bangladesh's progress in various sectors including telecommunications.

He expressed hope that both countries would be benefited from the progress of the sector through the mutual exchange of experience in the telecommunication sector between the two countries.
