Police intends to become last resort of public: IGP

RAJSHAHI, July 1, 2022 (BSS) - Inspector General of Bangladesh Police (IGP)
Dr Benazir Ahmed said they are intended to become the first and the last
resort of the public in general.

"All levels of police should come forward and work together for the welfare
of the country to attain the cherished goal. Police should stand beside the
peace-loving people," he added.

The IGP made the observation while addressing a meeting at police line parade
ground to mark the 30th founding anniversary of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police
(RMP) today as the chief guest.

Vice-chancellor of Rajshahi University Professor Golam Sabbir Sattar,
Principal of Bangladesh Police Academy Abu Hassan Tarique, Deputy Inspector
General of Police (DIGP) of Rajshahi Range Abdul Baten and RMP Commissioner
Abu Kalam Siddique also spoke.

IGP Dr Benazir Ahmed said the police are doing well in many fields but there
is no end of good. Time has come to break all the previous good records.

He said the country is going ahead gradually under the dynamic and prudent
leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The country will become a
developed one by 2041 and the police force must be prepared for that time.

Stressing the need for combating religious extremism collectively he said the
extremism isn't the fact of Bangladesh and it has intruded into the country
from abroad repeatedly.

He, however, said police are playing a pioneering role in eradicating
militancy, extremism and terrorism.

Earlier, RMP family members took out a colourful rally from Bheripara
crossing led by the IGP to mark the celebration of founding anniversary and
the rally ended at Police line parade ground after parading through some
thoroughfares.

In the morning, IGP Benazir Ahmed also inaugurated the daylong celebration
through releasing pigeons, festoons and balloons in the sky.

He also inaugurated the daylong blood donation, vegetable farming on barren
land, tree plantation and releasing fish fry marking the founding
anniversary.
