MAWA, Munshiganj, June 25, 2022 (BSS) - Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said that the Padma Bridge is the bridge of the Prime Minister’s sacrifice, dignity and the integrity.

“The Padma Bridge is the dignity of the Bangali nation. The bridge symbolizes honesty and firmness of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he said while talking to journalists at the Mawa end of the Padma Bridge inauguration ceremony this morning.

Hanif mentioned that many conspiracies were hatched against the Padma Bridge and finally the World Bank withdrew its funding for a so called allegation.

He said local and foreign conspiracies were also hatched against the long cherished Padma Bridge.

“I think this Padma Bridge materialized our Bangali nation’s dream and this is Sheikh Hasina’s bridge of victory and the bridge is the Bangali nation’s pride,” ther Awami League leader said.

Earlier, the Prime Minister opened its longest bridge, overcoming three pronged challenges - financial, engineering and political.

She inaugurated the bridge on one of world's mightiest rivers connecting southwestern Bangladesh with the capital and other parts while both the streams are considered powerful in terms of their length, water discharge and morphological trends.

The premier unveiled the plaque of the Padma Bridge at Mawa end at a colourful ceremony where thousands of distinguish guests including foreign diplomats were present.

The event came 25 years after she opened the Bangabandhu Bridge on the Jamuna River, another most powerful stream, linking northwest with Dhaka and other parts of the country in 1998, until when that was Bangladesh's longest multipurpose bridge.
