KHULNA, June 25, 2022 (BSS) - Hundreds of people from all walks of life today witnessed and celebrated the inaugural ceremony of the much-awaited Padma Bridge through large screen at different areas of the city.

People from different areas thronged in front of the large television screens in different areas of the city including Shibbari intersection and Daulatpur and Khalishpur industrial belts.

Organised by Khulna District Administration, the main celebration programme was held at the district stadium in the city.

Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque inaugurated the celebrations as chief guest by releasing balloons and pigeons at Khulna Stadium when Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formally inaugurated the foundation stone of the Padma Bridge at Mawa point.

Acting Divisional Commissioner Md Shahidul Islam, Khulna Metropolitan Police Commissioner (KMP) Md Masudur Rahman Bhuiyan, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Khulna Range Dr Khondokar Muhid Uddin, Administrator of Khulna Zila Parishad Sheikh Harun-ur-Rashid, Chairman of KDA Brigadier General S M Mirazul Islam, Deputy Commissioner Md Moniruzzaman Talukder, Police Super (SP) Khulna Md Mahbub Hasan, Khulna Press Club President S M Nazrul Islam, among others, attended the occasion. Later, they joined a munajat.

Earlier, Khulna Metropolitan Police brought out a jubilant rally in the city marking the opening of the Padma Bridge. KCC Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque joined the rally in front of Khulna Shaheed Hadit Park as chief guest.

Khulna Samillita Nagarik Forum, a combine citizen’s forum, distributed sweetmeat at Khulna Shaheed Hadit Park among the common people after inauguration of the Padma Bridge.

To mark the day, a discussion was held at Khulna Stadium followed by a colourful cultural band music, lesser show and fireworks.

Khulna city has been wearing a festive look marking the Padma Bridge opening. City’s main streets, important places, road islands, government, semi government, autonomous bodies and others establishments have been decorated and illuminated while over hundred of gates and festoons have been set up on the occasion of the Padma Bridge inauguration.

A video documentary on the Padma Bridge is being showed at Shaheed Hadit Park, Shibbari intersection and Daulatpur, Khalishpur, Khulna Railway Station and different important streets of the city.
