RANGPUR, July 21, 2021 (BSS) - Sixteen more people died of Covid-19 during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am today raising the total number of casualties to 782 in Rangpur division.
Health officials said the number of Covid-19 cases also rapidly climbed to 38,416 with diagnosis of 421 positive cases afresh in all eight districts of the division on Tuesday.
“The Covid-19 situation still continues deteriorating amid rising causality rate and declining recovery rate in recent weeks in the division,” Focal Person of the Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.
The 16 new casualties were reported from Rangpur, Lalmonirhat, Gaibandha, Nilphamari, Dinajpur, Thakurgaon and Panchagarh districts.
“A total of 321 Covid-19 patients, the highest number in a month since June 20 last, died in Rangpur division,” he said, fearing that the situation may worsen further if the people would not abide by the health directives properly.
The district-wise break up of the 782 fatalities stands at 165 in Rangpur, 246 in Dinajpur, 146 in Thakurgaon, 56 in Nilphamari, 39 in Kurigram, 45 in Panchagarh, 38 in Gaibandha and 47 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division.
“The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.04 percent, the highest ever fatality rate since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in the division,” Dr Siddiqui said.
Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases hastily reached 38,416 as 421 new patients were diagnosed after testing 1,702 samples of Rangpur division at the positivity rate of 24.74 percent on Tuesday.
“The district-wise break up of 38,416 infected patients stands at 8,445 in Rangpur, 2,108 in Panchagarh, 2,936 in Nilphamari, 2,020 in Lalmonirhat, 2,796 in Kurigram, 5,290 in Thakurgaon, 11,583 in Dinajpur and 3,238 in Gaibandha of the division,” he said.
Talking to BSS, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam said a total of 1,96,432 collected samples were tested till Sunday, and of them, 38,416 were found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 19.56 percent in the division.
Meanwhile, the total number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 28,448 with recovery of 326 more infected patients on Tuesday in the division where the average recovery rate currently stands at 74.05 percent.
“The average recovery rate of Covid-19 infected patients reached 97.55 percent more than four months ago on March 9 last in the division where the same harshly dropped by 23.05 percent during the period to 74.05 percent on Tuesday,” Dr Islam said.
The 28,448 recovered patients include 6,053 of Rangpur, 1,134 of Panchagarh, 2,308 of Nilphamari, 1,485 of Lalmonirhat, 1,900 of Kurigram, 3,720 of Thakurgaon, 9,815 of Dinajpur and 2,033 of Gaibandha districts in the division.
Among the 38,416 infected patients, 601 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 25 critical patients at ICU beds and 11 at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 28,448 patients and 782 deaths while 9,023 are remaining in home isolation.
“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine rose to 7,34,419, and among them, 3,89,508 got the second dose of the jab till Tuesday in the division,” Dr Islam added.
Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu urged people to abide by the health directives not neglecting the severity of the Covid-19 pandemic situation.
