Sadhan for reaching incentives to genuine farmers

RAJSHAHI, April 21, 2022 (BSS) - Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Mazumder called for reaching incentives to only the genuine farmers as the government is determined to do the same.

He said the present government is reaching fertilizer, seed and electricity to the doorsteps of the grassroots farmers and there is no shortage of fertilizer, seed and power in the country at present.

The minister came up with the observation while distributing fertilizer and high yielding seed among the small and marginal farmers free of cost as incentives for boosting Aush paddy production at Niamatpur Upazila Parishad Hall Room in Naogaon district today as chief guest.

The minister urged the beneficiary farmers to enhance production of paddy after the best use of the incentives.

In the incentive list, there is no room for the inclusion of the people who are not farmers or they have no lands for paddy farming, he added.

On the occasion, 2,000 small and marginal farmers were given the incentives. Each of the beneficiary farmers was given five kilograms of high yielding seed, 20 kilograms of diammonium phosphate and 10 kilograms of muriate of potash fertilizers for Aush paddy cultivation on one bigha of land under the government's agricultural incentive programme.

Sadhan Chandra told the meeting that there will be no food deficit in the country if the farmers boost rice production after taking the incentives. The farmers will get the due price of paddy if there is no need of importing rice.

He added that the government will always remain beside the farmers as it has attached priority to the agriculture sector.

With Assistant Commissioner (Land) Monjurul Alam in the chair, the distribution meeting was addressed, among others, by Upazila Chairman Farid Ahmed, Vice Chairman Nadira Begum and Upazila Agriculture Officer Muhammad Wahiduzzaman.
