DHAKA, March 08, 2022 (BSS) -The 36th Regional Conference for Asia and the

Pacific (APRC) of the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)
began today in Bangladesh for the first time.  

  The 4-day conference will continue till March 11, a press release said.  

  Agriculture Secretary Md Saidul Islam inaugurated the first 2-days' session
of the conference for senior officials, agriculture secretaries and senior
government officials at a city hotel, the release added.  

  Agriculture Secretary was elected president for the session.  

  FAO Assistant Director General and Regional Representative Jung-Jin Kim
Conference Secretary Sridhar Dharmapuri and Food Ministry Secretary Dr
Mosammat Nazmanara Khanum and other participating delegations were present on
the occasion.

   The plenary session of the conference is being held at InterContinental
hotel here and the opening ceremony, cultural programme and country
showcasing are being arranged at Bangabandhu International Conference Center
(BICC).

   The ministerial meeting with Agriculture Minister will be held on March
10-11 next.  

  The inaugural ceremony of the ministerial meeting or conference will be
held on March 10 at the BICC where Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected
to be present on the occasion as the chief guest.
