Bangladesh to be turned into a middle income country soon: lawmakers

DHAKA, Jan 27, 2022 (BSS) – Lawmakers today said Bangladesh is progressing ahead and soon it will be a middle income country from the lower middle income one due to constructive leadership of the present government.

They said the head of the state, in his 169-page speech on January 16 in 2022, on the first day of the maiden session in 2022 of the 11th parliament, highlighted different development activities in various sectors including socio-economic, political, cultural, education, youth and sports, information and communication technology (ICT) and foreign relations.

Referring to establishment of a digitalized country, Begum Matia Chowdhury said “Bangladesh will transform into a middle income country from the lower middle income one soon under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.”

Subsequently, the country will turn to higher growth one due to the time befitting leadership of the incumbent prime minister, Matia told the parliament.

To materialize the goal, she said necessary infrastructure development has already been going ahead while production in all sphere has been increased significantly.

During the corona pandemic in the last two years since March 2020, the senior ruling party leader said the country has carried out development activities in various sectors through developing the information technology infrastructure.

In addition to this, she said a total of twenty-eight packages have been announced for improving the livelihood of the people during the pandemic.
 
Participating in the discussion, Abu Sayeed Al Mahmud Shawpan MP said the ruling Awami League is working to develop the livelihood of the people as the dream of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman could be fulfilled.

During the discussion, Jatiya Party lawmaker Kazi Feroz Rashid of Dhaka-6, however, said that the man is mortal, but the development activities that have been done by the present government would be remembered during the coming days.

Criticizing the BNP, the ruling party whip said the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working for improving the quality of life of the people but BNP and its allies are hatching conspiracy against the government.

Earlier, the chief whip Nur-E Alam Chowdhury came up with a proposal for holding discussion on thanksgiving motion of the President’s speech in the House and then it was seconded by treasury bench lawmaker Shamsul Huq Tuku.

Lawmakers including Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim of Gopalganj-2, Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury of Madaripur-1, Abu Zahir of Habiganj-3,Shahiduzzaman Sarker of Naogaon-2, Rumana Ali of women seat-14, Begum Aroma Dutta of women seat-11, Sultan Mohammad Mansur Ahmed of Moulvi Bazar-2, Habiba Rahman Khan of women seat-17, BNP lawmaker Harunur Rashid of Chapai Nawabganj-3, Gonoforum lawmaker Mokabbir Khan of Sylhet-2 and Chief Whip of the opposition Mashiur Rahman of Rangpur-1, attended the discussion.

The lawmakers said the country led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working relentlessly to turn the country into a developed one within the stipulated time.

The lawmakers also thanked the President for giving a timely speech highlighting the success stories of the government and guiding the nation towards peace, progress and prosperity.

Earlier, they paid rich tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his contribution to establishing an independent Bangladesh.
