DHAKA, Nov 18, 2021 (BSS) - The Jatiya Sangsad (JS) today passed two bills through voice votes with Parliament Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury presiding the session.
The two bills are: the Bangladesh House Building Finance Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2021 in an amended form, proposed by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal and the Bangladesh Tour Operator and Tour Guide (Registration and Management) Bill, 2021 proposed by State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Mahbub Ali.
Bangladesh House Building Finance Corporation (Amendment) Bill was passed in an amended form making necessary provisions to expand the scope of work of House Building Finance Corporation. A provision has been made to increase the authorized and paid up capital of the corporation.
Besides, the bill specified the formation of the Board of Trustees, decentralization of power, provision of collecting funds for execution of contracts with the local and international banks or financial institutions, ability for taking cognizance of offenses, bail, and enforcement of criminal procedure and application of magistracy power in imposition of fines.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Tour Operators and Tour Guides (Registration and Management) Bill was passed with some necessary provisions to bring tour operators and tour guides under the specific legal framework for its development in the greater interest of tourism industry.
In addition, specific provisions were made for tour operators and tour guides to further protect the interests of tourists and also develop the tourism environment.
Opposition bench members -- Fakhrul Imam, Rustam Ali Faraiji, Pir Fazlur Rahman, Raushan Ara Manna and Barrister Shamim Haider Patwari of Jatiya Party, Harunur Rashid, Mosharraf Hossain and Rumin Farhana of BNP and independent member- Rezaul Karim Bablu took part in the discussion on amendments.
