DHAKA, Sept 28, 2021 (BSS) - Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa
Jabbar today said that commemorative stamps are a beacon of light for the new
generation as a stamp represents the history of centuries after centuries.
"Commemorative stamps are a beacon of light for the new generation. Through
commemorative stamps, the new generation gets a chance to assimilate the
lifestyle, culture and history of the past," he said.
The minister was speaking at the inaugural function of JUBILEEPEX 2021
(International Friendship Virtual Philatelic Exhibition, Bangladesh)
organised by Philatelic Society of Bangladesh (PSB) in the city as the chief
guest.
He called upon all concerned, including the Philatelic organisation, to
come forward to inspire the new generation to collect commemorative stamps.
Stamp collection is a big hobby and addiction, Jabbar said, adding that now
letters are not circulating like before, but for many, commemorative stamp
collection is still a big hobby.
The development of technology is a big challenge for the post office, he
said, adding that if post office cannot be modernised and digitalized, the
government will not be able to keep the post office active.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is very sincere in the development of postal
service, he added.
Following this, pragmatic work has started to transform the post office
into a digital post office, he continued.
PSB leader Akbar Hossain presided over the function while Director General
of the Department of Posts Siraj Uddin and Philatelist and renowned stamp
designer Biman Mallick also spoke on the occasion, among others.
The minister later unveiled a commemorative stamp on the occasion and
inaugurated the exhibition.
