Covid-19 cases reach 54,625 in Rangpur division

 

  RANGPUR, Sept 20, 2021 (BSS) - The number of Covid-19 cases has reached
54,625 in Rangpur division where the pandemic situation continues improving
consistently during the last one and a half months.

   "The number of Covid-19 cases rose to 54,625 with diagnosis of 61 new
patients after testing 864 samples at the positivity rate of 7.06 percent on
Sunday," said Dr ZA Siddiqui, focal person of the Covid-19 and assistant
director (Health) for Rangpur division.

   Earlier, the daily positivity rates were 5.14 percent on Saturday, 7.39
percent on Friday, 3.36 percent on Thursday, 6.29 percent on Wednesday, 6.01
percent on Tuesday and 5.50 percent on Monday last in the division.

   The district-wise break-up of the total 54,625 patients now stands at
12,335 in Rangpur, 3,710 in Panchagarh, 4,381 in Nilphamari, 2,722 in
Lalmonirhat, 4,614 in Kurigram, 7,456 in Thakurgaon, 14,573 in Dinajpur and
4,834 in Gaibandha in the division.

   "Meanwhile, one more patient died in Rangpur district during the last 24
hours ending at 8 am today raising the number of casualties to 1,225 in the
division," he said.

   "The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.24 percent in the
division," Dr Siddiqui added.

   The district-wise break-up of the total 1,225 fatalities currently stands
at 291 in Rangpur, 80 in Panchagarh, 87 in Nilphamari, 66 in Lalmonirhat, 67
in Kurigram, 248 in Thakurgaon, 323 in Dinajpur and 63 in Gaibandha.

   "Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, a total of 2,73,772
collected samples were tested till Sunday, and of them, 54,625 were found
Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 19.95 percent in the
division," Siddiqui continued.

   Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Motaharul Islam told BSS that the
number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 51,186 with recovery of 86 more
patients on Sunday raising the average recovery rate to 93.70 percent in the
division.

  Of the total 51,186 recovered patients, 10,647 in Rangpur, 3,366 in
Panchagarh, 4,278 in Nilphamari, 2,587 in Lalmonirhat, 4,462 in Kurigram,
6,896 in Thakurgaon, 14,197 in Dinajpur and 4,753 in Gaibandha districts in
the division.

   Among the 54,625 patients, 123 are undergoing treatments at isolation
units, including 14 critical patients at ICU beds and eight at High
Dependency Unit (HDU) beds, after recovery of 51,186 patients and 1,225
deaths while 2,091 are remaining in home isolation.

   "Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19
vaccine rose to 25,26,310, and among them, 14,87,158 got the second dose of
the jab till Sunday in the division," Dr Islam added.

   Talking to BSS today, Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and
Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr
AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu said the Covid-19 situation is improving satisfactorily in
Rangpur division.

   "However, everyone should abide by the health directives, hygiene rules,
wear masks and maintain physical distance to contain further spread of the
deadly virus in the division," he added.
