President's autobiography "invaluable asset": PM

DHAKA, Feb 8, 2023 (BSS) - Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today described President Md Abdul Hamid's autobiography as an "invaluable asset" for the nation through which the people can know many things about the country's history. 
 
"He (Abdul Hamid) will no more be President (in future) as he is going to accomplish his responsibility as the President for two consecutive terms in accordance with the constitution. But, he (Abdul Hamid) has given us an invaluable asset (through his autobiography "Amar Jibonneeti Amar Rajneeti") to us. We can know many things from that part of his life that he sketched in the autobiography," she said. 
 
The Prime Minister was addressing as the chief guest the publication ceremony of two books written by President M Abdul Hamid, --- one an autobiography titled "Amar Jibonneeti Amar Rajneeti" published by the Bangla Academy and another compilation of two parts of a book of the president's speeches titled "Swapno Joyer Ichchha" --- at the Darbar Hall of the President's official Bangabhaban residence here this evening.
 
The function was followed by a dinner and a musical soiree hosted by the President in honour of the parliament members. 
 
The Prime Minister requested Abdul Hamid to write down the rest of his life, particularly the period he passed as the country's President when he will go on retirement. 
 
President M Abdul Hamid, his wife and First Lady of Bangladesh Rashida Khanam, Speaker of the House Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and veteran parliamentarian and Awami League Leader Tofail Ahmed addressed the function. 
 
Bangla Academy Director General poet Mohammad Nurul Huda gave the address of welcome while Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) Prof Nehal Ahmed moderated the function. 
 
The chief justice, cabinet members, parliamentarians, noted personalities of different fields, high military and civil officers were present on the occasion. 
 
On her arrival at the Bangabhaban, the Prime Minister was earlier received by the President and his spouse. 
  
Sheikh Hasina said the autobiography of Abdul Hamid depicted that he has shown responsibility and patriotism in every part of his life and how he grew up as a politician from his childhood by confronting the tough time in the haor. 
 
"He (Abdul Hamid) is a successful man in his personal and political life. He was elected as a national council member in the youngest age in Bangladesh's history. He was elected member of the parliament for seven terms and none could defeat him from the haor region," she said. 
 
Despite vote rigging, snatching and manipulation at various times, the Prime Minister said none can take away the parliamentary seat from him.
 
"None can defeat him because he has extensive connection to the soil and its people. He has the great virtue to achieve the trust and confidence of the people by going closer to them and mingling with them," she said. 
 
The Prime Minister said Abdul Hamid is leading a simple life despite being the president of the country. 
 
She recalled his contribution to the country's every struggle and movement that included the Liberation War and revived the country's democracy. 
 
Sheikh Hasina said he (Abdul Hamid) had served as deputy leader of the House when Awami League was in opposition and later he became deputy speaker and speaker and is currently performing as the country's President. 
  
The Prime Minister said Abdul Hamid had made the parliament lively with his humour and developed a beautiful relation with the opposition as the Speaker of the parliament.
 
Mentioning that he always devoted himself for the welfare of the country and its people, she hoped that Abdul Hamid will give more to the nation as a politician. 
 
"We wish him a beautiful, successful, long and happy life (Abdul Hamid)," she said. 
 
The Prime Minister wholeheartedly thanked the President as he always stands beside her and inspires her.
