2 death row convicts in Dipan murder case fled from court premises 

DHAKA, Nov 20, 2022 (BSS) – Two activists of banned militant outfit JMB who were sentenced to death in publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan murder case were snatched from police custody by their associates at Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate Court this noon. 
   
The militants are Abu Siddiq and Moinul Hasan, activists of Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).

Chief of Dhaka Metropolitan DB Police Harun-Or-Rashid confirmed the matter to BSS and said that four people riding on two motorcycles went to the court area and snatched the two death-row convicts around 12 noon after spraying some chemical on the eyes of the law enforcers.

He also said that drive is underway to capture the snatched militants.  

Earlier, the two death-row convicts were produced before Dhaka Anti-Terrorism Tribunal in a case filed with Mohammadpur Police Station.

On February 10, 2021, eight people including suspended army Major Syed Ziaul Haque Zia were sentenced to death and fined Taka 50,000 each for killing Dipon.

On October 31, 2015, Dipan, 43, publisher of Jagriti Prokashani, was hacked to death at his office in the city's Shahbagh area. Later, his wife filed a murder case with Shahbagh Police Station.  

The eight death convicts in the case are suspended major Syed Ziaul Haque Zia, Akram Hossain, Mainul Hasan Shameem alias Samir alias Imran, Abdus Sabur Samad alias Sujan alias Raju alias Saad, Khairul Islam alias Jamil alias Jishan, Abu Siddique Sohel alias  Sakib alias Sajid alias Shahab, Md Mozammel Hossain alias Saimon alias Shahriar, and Shaikh Abdullah alias Zubair alias Zaid alias Zabed alias Abu Omair).
