Preparations completed for dealing with cyclone Ashani in Pirojpur

PIROJPUR, May 9, 2022 (BSS) - A preparatory meeting over cyclone Ashani was
held here this afternoon.

District disaster management committee held the meeting
at Shaheed Abdur Razzak-Saif Mizan Memorial Auditorium in Deputy
Commissioner's Office with Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Jahedur Rahman in the
chair.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Chowdhury Raushan Islam, Additional
Superintendent of Police (Crime and Administration) Mollah Azad Hossain,
Senior Engineer of LGED Executive Engineer's Office Ariful Haque, Executive
Engineer of Bangladesh Water Development Board Mahbubey Maula Md. Mehedi
Hasan, Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Sadar upazila Farhana Akter,
Journalists Gautam Chowdhury of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), Mahmud
Hossain of Bangladesh Betar, SM Parvez of Bangladesh Television, Staff
Reporter of Ittefaq Moniruzzaman Nasim Ali, representatives of Red Crescent,
Youth Red Crescent, among others, were present at the meeting.

A total of 247 cyclone shelters have been set up in the district.

Besides, 5,500 dry meals, necessary number of medical team and volunteers
have also been prepared.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) said there is no danger in the district but we have
finalized the preliminary preparations to deal with the damage likely to be
caused by the cyclone.

Executive Engineer of the Bangladesh Water Development Board said that 139 km
dam has been constructed in Mathbaria to cope with the cyclone and 60 km dams
in Bhandaria and 145 km dams in Sadar and Indurkani. The condition of the dam
is quite strong.
